Flood

A flood occurs when water overflows rivers, lakes and seas and soaks land that is normally dry. Heavy rain, storm surges, rapid snow melt and rising seas can cause floods. Of all natural disasters, flooding is among the most damaging to people, buildings and ecosystems. Billions of people have been impacted by floods in recent decades.
 
Climate change is amplifying extreme rain events and flood threats. Our warming planet means warmer air that holds more moisture. And the effects on floods are especially complicated. More water vapor means more rainfall, storms and downpours and a greater risk of rapidly rising rivers. When swollen rivers spill over their banks, floodwaters can devastate towns, farmlands and cities. 

Climate change may also slow the jet stream, causing storms to linger for longer over regions. A thunderstorm lasting only one hour can release millions of gallons of water leading to disastrous floods. Small gentle streams can turn into raging torrents. In steep terrain, water from heavy rain cascades down hillsides causing rivers to rise quickly. This surge of water is a flash flood. Seasonal flooding occurs when heavy snow in the winter is followed by rapid melting in the spring.

Flooding can be made much worse by heatwaves and warmer periods at high elevations. Windstorms along the coasts may produce swells and storm surges, driving ocean water toward land. When this occurs during high tide the result can be damaging coast floods.

Thunderheads meet and surpass all US safety standards. Regular size Thunderheads are appropriate and safe for all ages. Key chain size Thunderheads are only for age 3 and up. 

Hand wash only using a damp cloth and warm water.  Air dry.  We do not recommend cleaning in a washing machine or drying in a drier.  Check all labels upon arrival of purchase.
